Equine Sports Massage Overview
Equine Sports Massage is the therapeutic application of professional sports massage techniques, inc Fascial Manipulation and exercise management.
Equine Sports Massage works on nearly all the muscles and soft tissues, but also affects the skin and many other systems such as the nervous, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems, utilising non invasive tools such as Kiniseo Tape, Laser Therapy and PEMF Therapy.
All the techniques use a hands-on approach allowing the therapist to explore the muscles for areas of tightness, spasm or soreness. Equine Sports Massage is a complementary therapy that covers the whole body relieving muscle tightness and compensatory tension, and therefore allowing the horse to function at its optimum. Treatment works closely with the horses natural instincts to encourage relaxation and the natural healing response. I also offer exercise management ideas as tailored work plans to ensure long lasting results and successful rehabilitation.
How will my horse benefit?
Equine Sports Massage can benefit every horse, pony and donkey from the companion animal to the top athlete. The range of techniques can be used during training, pre and post competition massage to encourage muscles to recover, to build tone, to maintain strength and suppleness, aid recovery and prevent atrophy even during a period of box rest or restricted work. Passive stretches help to keep or restore joints and muscles to full working capacity.
Benefits can include:
"Equine Sports Massage is not a substitute for veterinary attention. All work carried out is in accordance with the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, which states that veterinary consent must be approved before working on any animal."
To ensure full benefits from your sports massage, you will be asked at your first session to give relevant information about your horses health, past and present. You will be asked about your horses day-to-day care and exercise regime and to discuss any presenting issues.
The horse will be subject to dynamic and static assessment all ensuring that the therapist can tailor a treatment which is ideally suited to your horses specific needs.
Treatments can be a one off but ideally repeated on a maintenance basis, two weekly, monthly or bi-monthly. Remedial treatments should be carried out once a week for up to four visits. All consultations with Whole Healing are by appointment only at a time most convenient for you in the comfort of your own yard and stable.
